About a month ago, the official WordPress.com blog announced the launch of VideoPress.com, a new service wich “is an upgrade that makes it easy to upload, embed, and share video on your WordPress.com blog or any site around the world, even in full HD”.

The first article dealing with the launch was by Matt himself on may 11. Matt explains the news as follow:
“With the video upgrade (available on your upgrades page, bottom left of dashboard navigation) when you upload a video of almost any format we’ll crunch it into several different formats just right for streaming on the web, DVD quality, HD quality, and even optimized for iTunes and Miro. Videos can be streamed and embedded here on WordPress.com or on any site around the world, even in full HD.”

It means that VideoPress is the best choice also for blogs and sites self-hosted. It’s evidently a better service then youtube or yahoo! video, for VideoPress allows a very easy upload and streaming of most-high quality videos.

On may 15 a new article by Matt Thomas followed, briefly explaining the main features; anyway the introduction on WordPress.com could be the right way to take your first look at how VideoPress.com works.

The WordPress Video Solution Framework is hosted on the WordPress.org Plugin Directory.

It’s good to see HD content becoming more common online. The slow take up of high-definition channels in many countries means the Internet sits alongside Blu-ray as a main source of HDTV. Let’s just hope that domestic broadband connections continue to improve in order to support the wealth of such content hat’s now available.
